NZ COVID Tracer app

The NZ COVID Tracer app helps you protect yourself, your whānau, and your community by enabling faster contact tracing.

What is the NZ COVID Tracer app

The NZ COVID Tracer app is a Ministry of Health app designed to make it easy to keep track of where you have been and who you have been with. This information helps with faster contact tracing when someone tests positive for COVID-19. The app can send alerts to people who have been in contact with a person who has COVID-19 to help stop the virus from spreading.

Your digital diary

You can get a Bluetooth alert from the NZ COVID Tracer app if you visit the same place, around the same time, as someone who later tests positive for COVID-19.

You can also:

  • scan a QR code if you see one
  • enter a diary entry manually or use a previous scan if you forget
  • save a location in your diary, such as places you visit regularly
  • view and edit diary entries, such as the names of people you were with
  • export and import your diary entries between an old phone and a new
  • manage notifications, such as reminders to update your diary or receive public health announcements.
