At the airport and travelling — NZ to Australia

What to expect at the airport when you depart, while travelling and when you arrive in Australia.

What to expect at the airport when you depart

You’ll notice extra precautions at the border. Please cooperate with requests from staff. Health professionals may be stationed at airports to undertake random temperature checks and health assessments of travellers.

Wear a face covering

We recommend you wear a face covering while you’re in the airport.

If you feel unwell

If you are unwell, you should not travel. Stay at home, and call Healthline for advice on 0800 611 116. At the airport, your airline will decide whether you should be allowed to board.

Make sure you bring evidence of any pre-existing conditions (for example hayfever) when you check in, to avoid being denied boarding.

If you feel unwell

If you feel unwell on the flight, you will be isolated from others. When you arrive in Australia, your health will be assessed, and decisions will be made about what happens next for you and possibly for others on the flight.

You should be prepared in case you need to meet any costs for quarantine or hospital care.

If you are travelling on to another destination in Australia

Check what you need to do for your next destination. Some states and territories may have requirements you need to meet, or may tell you to quarantine when you get there.
