Walking, cycling and other active travel at Alert Level 4

Personal walks and other active travel like cycling or scootering are fine, as long as you keep 2 metres away from anyone not in your household bubble.

You can use shared bicycles or scooters.

Stick to simple outdoor exercise and avoid areas where you can get injured or lost. It is important emergency services remain available to support the response to COVID-19.

Remember, any unnecessary travel may spread COVID-19.  

  • If you are unwell, stay at home.
  • Keep track of who you have been in contact with.
  • Practise good hygiene habits.
  • Do not travel if you have been asked to self-isolate. 

Even if you have been vaccinated, you still need to follow the rules to keep everyone safe.

Sports and recreation at Alert Level 4

Travelling to work at Alert Level 4

If you are an Alert Level 4 worker and you are permitted to leave home to work, you can walk, cycle or use other active travel like scooters to get there.   

You may be asked to show who you work for so you can prove you have a reason to travel. We recommend your employer provide you with a letter to confirm:

  • your name
  • that you are providing an Alert Level 4 business or service, and
  • your destination.

Getting vaccinated

You can use any travel method to get to your COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
