Check locations of interest

Locations of interest are places where someone confirmed with COVID-19 has visited.

You are a contact if you have been at a location of interest at the specified time.

Check the locations of interest and follow the health advice of the Ministry of Health.

What is a Section 70

Section 70 of the Health Act 1956 gives special powers to a medical officer of health to prevent the outbreak or spread of any infectious disease.

A Section 70 order is issued to make sure you understand it is very important that you follow the advice given by public health units.

A Section 70 order allows a medical officer of health to require those in the order to:

  • meet public health requirements
  • undergo testing
  • isolate until they get a test result.

People must follow the order immediately.

What is an exposure event

Exposure events sometimes do not need to be made public, because everybody there is known and can be followed up. There are many more exposure events than there are locations of interest, and not all exposure events become locations of interest.

If your business is a location of interest

The Ministry of Health has guidance to support New Zealand businesses that have been identified as a location of interest after a visit by a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case.

In most cases, a public health official will call and talk you through what this means for your business. However, there may be some occasions, for example outside business hours, when it may not be possible to contact you immediately.
