The Ministry of Health is publishing data about the cases of COVID-19 and testing in New Zealand.

You can find data on:

  • confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19
  • the number of people who have recovered
  • how many people are and have been in hospital
  • cases by district health board (DHB), and by age and gender.

A cluster is a group of 10 or more COVID-19 cases that are linked because the people were in the same place together.

COVID-19 modelling reports

The Ministry of Health has published a series of modelling reports which were commissioned to help understand the potential impact of COVID-19 in New Zealand. These reports show the importance of the Alert Level 4 lockdown and other government actions in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health is also recording tests by region and by ethnicity within regions. This gives us an accurate picture of the spread of COVID-19 and how to respond in the best way. It also helps to keep track of who is being tested, including vulnerable communities or at-risk groups with underlying health conditions.
