About the rollout

Everyone in New Zealand aged 16 and over will be in 1 of 4 vaccine rollout groups. People at greater risk will get vaccinated first.

Once it is your turn, you can be vaccinated at any time — there is no cut off.

The actual start times will depend on when vaccines are delivered. Changes may also happen if we get new information that affects how the rollout will work.

Group 1

Border and managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) workers

Group 1 includes people working at the border or in MIQ, and the people they live with (household contacts).

It is mandatory for workers at MIQ facilities, ports and airports who are at the greatest risk of exposure to COVID-19 to get vaccinated.

How to book your vaccination

Group 2

High-risk frontline workers and people living in high-risk places

You are in this group if you:

  • are a high-risk frontline healthcare worker (public or private)
  • work in a long-term residential environment
  • live in long-term residential care and are 16 or over
  • are an older Māori or Pacific person being cared for by whānau
  • live with or care for an older Māori or Pacific person
  • live in the Counties Manukau DHB area and are 65 or over, have an underlying health condition or disability, are pregnant, or are in a custodial setting.

Group 3

People who are at risk of getting very sick from COVID-19

You are in this group if you:

  • are aged 65 or over, or
  • have a relevant underlying health condition, or
  • are disabled, or
  • are in a position of caring for a person with a disability, or
  • are pregnant (any trimester), or
  • are an adult in a custodial setting.

How to book your vaccination

Group 4

Everyone aged 16 and over

You are in this group if you are aged 16 and over and have not been eligible for a vaccination yet.

It is a big group, with more than 2 million people, so we will break it down by age bands.

  • Everyone aged 55 and over can now book their vaccinations.
  • The next age band is people aged 45 and over — bookings for this age band will open late August.
  • People aged 35 and over will be able to book their vaccine from mid to late September.
  • Everyone else will be able to book from October.

These timings are esitmates. Depending on vaccine supply and progress, invitations to other age groups may change.

Once it is your time, you can be vaccinated at any time — there is no cut off.

Everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand aged 16 and over will be able to be vaccinated by the end of the year.
